Located at Fengxian District, the south area of Shanghai City, Zhi Yuan Senior High School has been running for its business since 1994. The school covers an area of 25,346m2, and is allocated with 30 classes, about 1,400 students in total.
The school was equipped with excellent teaching, experimental, computing and living facilities. Existing 2 teaching buildings, 2 office buildings and 1 stadium are well operated to meet the normal requirement of teaching and public services. A new lab building, functioned as 3 computer-rooms, 3 physics laboratories, 3 chemistry laboratories, 2 multi-media-rooms, 2 biology laboratories, and 3 art-rooms for music, painting and earthenware respectively, ensures various experiments and after-class practices running up successfully. The library opens to staff and students 10 hours a day, year around. The newly built dormitory can accommodate students up to 600.
The school has achieved significant success over the past six years, with the great efforts of all the staff and students. It has been entitled with quite a few prizes and awards, including Shanghai Creative Education Experimental School, Shanghai Educational Research Model Unit, Shanghai Red Cross Model Unit, Shanghai Behavior and Discipline Demonstrating School, Shanghai Suburb Model Unit, State Physical Education and Sanitation Model Unit, which were really worthy of proud.
The advanced guiding principle has promoted the rapid progress and resulted in formation of quality-oriented education during the school running. As the head teacher, Mr Shengwei Qi, said, promoting students with self-oriented and innovative would be the target of the school management. Modern education theory demonstrated that learners have their own potentials, which could only be explored with themselves. Those having innovative and self-oriented spirit can keep up with the advancement of culture, science and technology of the day. The main task of the school is to help students to find a way to build up their confident, and dig out their potentials in all aspects.
In accordance with the talent, physical and psychological requirement for high school students over the coming century, the school has set up its own education principle, i.e., self-respect in personality, self-independence in study, self-discipline in behavior and self-management in life.
The school culture is developed on the school spirit, which was appeared in school instruction, i.e., affection, efficiency and innovation. The principle for school running is fully embodied in it.
The school has more than 140 staff, of which 6 obtained MA, and the rest obtained BA or BS degrees. Over 57% are teachers of advanced and medium classification. To improve teachers' qualification, a regular training system has been developed, including trainings of English, computer, multi-media software etc.
In the meantime, much more attention was laid on bringing up students' potential and enhancing their consciousness of self-independence, which would help to promote their individual development.
The curriculum system of artistic and aesthetic education has been developed as one of the school features. Full attention was focused on to the three combinations, that is, the combination of teaching in class and activities out of class; the combination of artistic education and specialty development; the combination of artistic education and social, campus activities. As a result, more than 94% students majoring in art have been admitted into universities.
To implement the principle of students' being self-oriented and innovative, creative concepts have been introduced into classroom teaching. A few teaching research subjects regarding on how to cultivate learners' creative power, such as the Practice and Research on 3P1A English Teaching Model, are carrying on in the school. In addition, to meet the different needs of students from different levels, lessons on English, mathematics are given at three levels so that students can choose suitable lessons according to their own levels. The school curriculum is made up of state required courses and school self-compiled courses, where knowledge is delivered, emotion are aroused, thinking is stimulated and ideas are exchanged.
The love of beauty is human beings' nature, especially to the teenaged. Therefore, every student in our school is guided to take part in artistic, aesthetic and physical activities. Combining popularization with the improvement, groups like brass band, chorus, dancing, practice of martial arts and gymnastics, and teams of chess, football, basketball, volleyball and table-tennis are formed to supply students with chances to display themselves, to cultivate their healthful aesthetic judgement and to build up and maintain good health. It's compulsory for high school students to have military training. They are also required to participate in the social activities, exposing themselves to new knowledge, sharpening the ability of observation and judgement and strengthening the social responsibilities.
Looking back into the past and looking forward to the future, we are quite confident that Shanghai Fengxian Zhi Yuan Senior High School will have a more glorious future. |
